Bear Market Rallies 2000-2003

Looks like we are in a bear market. But don't despair, they rarely go straight down.

If historical bear markets are any guide, as the market falls over time, there are sharp rallies that allowed participants to rebalance or de-risk their portfolios if needed.

Here is a picture of the S&P 500 during the 2000-2003 bear market. Some of these bear market rallies were pretty large but did not change the overall downward trend during this period. This doesn't tell us where the market is going today, but it DOES teach you how to think about managing your portfolio during a bear market.
